KEY FEATURES

Blue Moon RV: The "Beat the Heat" AC Maintenance Checklist

Don't wait for the Texas heatwave to find a problem. In North Texas, your RV air conditioner works harder than almost any other component on your rig.

THE INTAKE & FILTER CHECK (MONTHLY)

Inspect Return Air Filters: Dust and pet hair are the #1 killers of AC efficiency.

Wash or replace filters monthly during the summer.

Check for Obstructions: Ensure no cabinets, curtains, or aftermarket "mods" are blocking the return air intake.

EXTERIOR ROOFTOP INSPECTION (BI-ANNUALLY)

Remove the Shroud: Inspect the plastic cover for sun-rot or hail damage.

A cracked shroud can lead to water leaks inside your rig.

Clean the Coils: Use a soft brush or specialized coil cleaner to remove dirt, "mud dauber" nests, and debris from the condenser coils.

Straighten the Fins: If the metal fins on your unit are bent, airflow is restricted.

Use a "fin comb" to carefully straighten them.

PERFORMANCE & ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTICS (ANNUALLY)

Test the "Delta T": Use a thermometer to measure the air going into the intake vs. the air coming out of the vents.

You should see a drop of 16F to 20F.

Check the "Start Capacitor": If your AC hums but the compressor won't kick on, your capacitor may be failing.

Inspect Roof Seals: Check the 14" x 14" foam gasket between the AC and the roof.

If it's compressed or brittle, you're at risk for a major water leak during a Texas thunderstorm.

WHEN TO CALL THE PROS AT BLUE MOON RV

The "Jet Engine" Sound: Excessive vibrating or loud grinding usually indicates a failing fan motor or compressor.

Short Cycling: If the unit turns on and off every few minutes, you likely have a sensor or control board issue.

Ice Formation: If you see ice on the coils, your airflow is restricted or you have a refrigerant leak.

Turn it off immediately and call us to prevent permanent compressor damage.
